The first Annual Report and Accounts are filed
The first Annual Report of the Trust has now been filed with the Charity Commission giving details of the Trust’s activities since it started in July 2006 until 31st March 2007. Full details are available through this link - http://www.charity-commission.gov.uk and searching for New Towner Trust.
"Established to seek support for the Cultural Centre, the Trust has reported that it had raised £116,500 in donations and pledges towards the project.
The Trustees started fundraising activities by raising awareness of the project before registration as a charity was agreed. A number of grant making trusts were approached to make grants to the New Towner Trust. The Trust agreed the key elements of their fundraising activities and established ways of reporting results.
The Trust created its own website with regular updates on the construction progress and details of how to support the Trust. The Trust has hosted a number of tours of the construction site for interested persons. The Trust was able to use a reception at No. 10 Downing Street hosted by Mrs Cherie Booth as an opportunity to raise awareness for the project.”
The Trust is grateful for the support from Perkins Copeland, Chartered Accountants, who acted as Independent Examiners of the Trust’s accounts.
New Towner Trust - a Registered Charity
The New Towner Trust has now been formally recognised as having charitable status by the Charities Commission and has been given a registration number. As a registered charity, we are now able to approach other charitable trusts and foundations for funding support where appropriate. The successful application to the Charity Commission was achieved with the help of local solicitors Barwells - www.barwells.com - who generously donated their professional time and advice to the Trust.
