Gallery workshop for the visually impaired.

The Towner places a strong emphasis on making its visual art programme and collections accessible to all and has invested heavily in developing programmes of both Education and Outreach in recent years.

The new Art Gallery in the Cultural Centre will enable the Towner’s collections to be accessible to visitors in many different ways:

  • The Towner has established a Disability Focus Group made up of individuals experiencing a range of barriers to culture that meets regularly to inform the Towner’s operation, programme and the full accessibility of the new building;
  • New town centre location – short walk from the rail station and 200 metres from the seafront;
  • Fully accessible art store for the permanent collection, enabling the collection to be viewed in store;
The Towner’s collection is to be photographed and made available digitally via the Internet.
